Tom Burke Departs CES Partners To Be President Of Roger Bacon High School

The Board of Trustees is pleased to announce Mr. Thomas W. Burke has been appointed the President of Roger Bacon High School.  Mr. Burke, a 1969 graduate, is only the second president in the school’s history and the first layperson to hold the position.
Founded in 1928, Roger Bacon High School is a sponsored ministry of the Franciscan Friars of the Province of St. John the Baptist and is the area’s only Franciscan high school.  Fr. Jeff Scheeler, OFM, the Provincial Minister said:  “The Province is very happy to welcome Mr. Burke as the next president.  As a graduate of St. Clement School and Roger Bacon High School, Mr. Burke brings a real understanding of the Franciscan spirit and charisma as it is expressed in education.  His business experience and expertise will help him lead Roger Bacon into an exciting future.”
Mr. Burke has spent the bulk of his career in health care with over 30 years of health care executive management experience as an administrator, consultant, and educator. Tom’s extensive executive-level experience and unique insight provide him with the capability to understand the changing trends in the health care industry and the challenges facing health care executives.   Many of these trends are also similar to the challenges and opportunities facing the education industry at all levels.
Tom began his health care career as the Director of Medical Records at University Hospital in Cincinnati (formerly Cincinnati General Hospital).  He then continued his career as a consultant, becoming Partner with the Big 8 professional services firm of Ernst & Whinney, providing a wide range of strategic and operational consulting services to both the acute care and senior living industries. His experience includes serving as the Senior Vice President for Quality Improvement for a major medical center and providing retained executive search services for a national search firm. An accomplished facilitator and speaker, Tom is well versed on a variety of industry-related and management topics and capable of presenting them with an entrepreneurial and lighthearted outlook.
Tom attended Xavier University and graduated Magna Cum Laude, with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics. He continued his education at University of Cincinnati for his Master in Business Administration. He is a past Board member of Episcopal Retirement Homes, Inc.  Tom has also been an adjunct professor for several graduate programs in Business Administration and served on the faculty of the Xavier University Graduate School in Health Care Administration and the University of Cincinnati undergraduate and graduate programs in Health Planning/Administration. He currently is an adjunct assistant professor teaching a graduate level online course on Building and Leading Teams in Health Care in the Masters Program in Health Care Administration at the University of Cincinnati.
In commenting on his return to the Roger Bacon family, Tom remarked:  “I am incredibly blessed to have the opportunity to return to the Spartan family.  Roger Bacon and Our Lady of Angels high schools were so influential for my family and me.  Mom, dad, my sister Bonnie and brothers Pat, Tim and Ken all graduated from Our Lady of Angels or Roger Bacon.  My hope is that I can help Roger Bacon High School achieve the fullest attainment of the school’s Catholic mission and to ensure that the Franciscan vision of secondary education continues as the hallmark of the institution.  I am grateful for the 12 years of service of Father Bill Farris and thank him from the bottom of my heart for assisting me in this transition of leadership.”
Mr. Burke will represent and lead over 16,000 alumni, 415 students, 76 faculty and staff members and all of the parents, friends and supports of the Roger Bacon community.  Anne McKinney, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees stated:  "The Board of Trustees is looking forward to working with Tom as he assumes the Presidency of Roger Bacon.  Tom's energy, enthusiasm and experience in the education and business sectors will help ensure our young men and women flourish during their Spartan experience and are prepared for successful futures."
